The elitists think they’re helping themselves when they attack a book that everybody loves. I’ve read comments about how the Harry Potter books are “full of cliches” or “not real literature.”
But as far as I can tell, this only proves that the critics who say such things are incompetent: They are no longer capable of reading as members of our culture. They are aliens; they have emigrated; they live in another world, and it’s time for us to stop paying attention to them.
They don’t know what “cliche” is – or they wouldn’t have uttered the cliche of saying that a work of popular literature is “full of cliches.” They wouldn’t recognize real creativity if it set up housekeeping under their kitchen table – they are still calling “experimental” academic-literary novels that are trotting out the same experiments that were done by James Joyce and Virginia Woolf.
If you love the Harry Potter books, then you are part of the best of contemporary American literature, not because the books have sold so phenomenally well, but because they are so phenomenally good, and millions upon millions of people have recognized it.
Ayer por la noche me llamó una amiga por si quería ir a pescar a Ribeira, como nunca había pescado en mi vida me pareció una oportunidad de lo más interesante. La idea ira era ir de noche a pescar calamares en el puerto, intentando pillar la marea alta.
La marea no la pillamos muy alta, y hasta eso de la 1 de la mañana teníamos que tener cuidado para que no se nos enganchase el anzuelo en las algas del fondo. La idea es lanzarlo lo más lejos posible e ir recogiéndolo poco a poco, para que el calamar siga al pez falso. Se podía observar como el calamar lo sigue hasta casi la costa donde le paras el anzuelo esperando a que lo pille con los tentáculos.
Tal y como me esperaba no pesqué nada. Los calamares eran muy listos y desconfiaban bastante de mi anzuelo. A parte de que según me dijeron, lo recogía muy deprisa y el calamar tendría que estar en muy buena forma para poder seguirme. Después de unos cuantos enredos que resolver, solamente conseguimos pillar un chipirón… otro día tendremos más suerte.
Esto de no hacer nada durante vacaciones no me está dejando mucho tiempo para dedicarle al blog, y me acabo de encontrar con que tengo bastantes pestañas abiertas del Firefox sobre el Nokia N95 y otros productos de Nokia. Así que aquí desahogo la carga del navegador en esta pequeña colección de enlaces.
Inconsistencias de la serie N. Nokia hace su serie N de móviles con una interfaz similar, pero son los pequeños detalles que cambian entre uno u otro los que crean algunas incomodidades al cambiar de dispositivo.
Versión del Nokia N95 para Estados Unidos, a parte de funcionar con las redes 3G de allí (distintas frecuencias de las europeas), presenta una batería nueva, la BL-6F, que tiene mayor capacidad que la del modelo existente (1200 mAh frente a 950 mAh). Ahora la gran duda es si es compatible con el modelo anterior, dado que también han cambiado el objetivo de la cámara, a lo mejor ahora le han puesto una batería más grande con el espacio ganado. Pues nada, como ya comentará, estos días estoy en la playa con unos amigos.
Estas son las vistas desde la cocina de la casa. Como se puede observar estoy solamente a escasos metros de la playa.
La playa es bastante tranquila, con bandera azul, y de escaso oleaje, excepto algunos días cuando hace algo de viento.
Y aquí es donde me dedico a pasar por unos días las horas tranquilamente. Paseos por la playa, lectura relajada, algún bañito en el atlántico, y grabar vídeos tan interesantes como el mostrado sobre este texto o él que está a continuación del mismo.
Soy de los que piensa que hay componentes del ordenador en los que merece la pena invertir. Un buen ratón, un buen monitor, un buen teclado. Son cosas que te pueden durar muchos años y que se usan constantemente. Personalmente prefiero los teclados mecánicos, que últimamente parecen una especie en extinción. Y me gustan mucho los teclados del Macbook Pro. Aunque los nuevos teclados están basados en el Macbook, si el tacto y el retorno es similar, serán la solución ideal para mí.
Sin embargo, el nuevo teclado inalámbrico tiene la misma distribución que la de un portátil, lo cual a mí no me interesa para nada, para eso ya tengo él del portátil. Así que si me gustan tendré que conformarme con la versión no inalámbrica (me pasaré por la tienda Apple de Santiago de Compostela para probarlos primero). Al menos tiene un hub usb.
Hace unos días que leí el segundo libro de la saga de Thursday Next, y me encantó, el problema es que la historia queda sin terminar, lo cual me obliga a leer el tercero lo antes posible, menos mal que me lo han prestado.
